About the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration

The Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA), founded in 1983, is one of the leading arbitration institutions in Asia and one of the most important arbitration institutions in China for international and cross-border commercial disputes.

SCIA was the first arbitration institution in mainland China to include foreign arbitrators in its panel (1984) and one of the first Chinese arbitration institutions whose arbitral awards were recognized and enforced abroad under the New York Convention.

The institution has developed into a major international arbitration center within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, a major global economic and financial region.

Today, SCIA has an international panel of arbitrators from over 100 countries and regions, reflecting its strong international character and global arbitration activity.

International Arbitration Activity and Statistics

The Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration handles a significant number of international and foreign-related arbitration cases each year.
In 2024, SCIA handled over 14,500 arbitration cases, reaching a record level of activity.

SCIA is also among the leading arbitration institutions in China in terms of international disputes. In 2024 alone, the institution handled over 500 foreign-related commercial arbitration cases, with disputes totaling approximately USD 7 billion.

These figures place SCIA among the major arbitration institutions in China and Asia dealing with international commercial disputes, alongside institutions such as CIETAC, SHIAC, and BAC.

Importance in International Arbitration

Over the past decades, SCIA has become an important forum for resolving international commercial disputes, including disputes related to:

  • international trade
  • construction and infrastructure projects
  • technology and IP disputes
  • investment disputes
  • shareholder and corporate disputes
  • maritime disputes

The institution has also adopted modern arbitration rules aligned with international standards and UNCITRAL arbitration practices and has introduced innovative procedures such as appellate arbitration and investment arbitration rules.

Professional Recognition

The inclusion of Radu Sora in the SCIA Panel of Arbitrators represents an international professional recognition and reflects experience in international arbitration, construction law, FIDIC contracts, commercial disputes, and cross-border dispute resolution.

Sora & Asociații SCA continues to develop its international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution practice, assisting clients in complex disputes before arbitral tribunals and courts in Romania and internationally.
